The program, which focuses on teaching trade skills to at-risk youth and offering alternatives to street life, gave the teens hands-on experiences with @mckingtorchafrica, a local Ghanaian sustainability group. Together, they helped build school desks, create a shed out of recycled plastic, and design artwork for bus shelters—all from repurposed materials.

The trip blended laughter, cultural exchange, and community service with practical skill-building, showing participants the power of unity, creativity, and global connection.

“This is about giving our boys opportunities to see the world differently, to learn trades, and to come back to Philadelphia with skills and a new vision for their future,” said Moore.

The journey highlights how grassroots organizations can make an international impact while empowering youth at home—bridging the gap between Philadelphia streets and African heritage through education, service, and culture.
